My secret weapon for transitioning from summer to fall fashion

August one y’all... you know what that means. If you are like me, then you are ready for fall! I love fall. In the last week I have made chili, enjoyed a pumpkin spice coffee (thanks to my in-laws for supporting my fall obsession!), and burnt a fall candle. When the first of August hits, I hit the ground running. Fall clothes. Fall food. Fall decor and more!

The problem is that I live in the South. Well, actually the problem is me. The first day of fall this year isn't until September 22 so I've got no business acting like it's fall in August. Nevertheless, I persist. If you aren't from the south, then you might not know that the temperatures can still average into the 90s through August and September. This is why I usually end up a sweaty mess. Maybe a hot mess. But most likely just a sweaty one. I'm learning over time how to keep my enthusiasm for fall while also making wise choices concerning my wardrobe. I've discovered a "secret weapon" for transitioning to fall minus all the sweat And because I love you guys, I’m going to share it with you.

Are you ready? Lean in...

My secret weapon is florals.

Yes. You read that right. Florals. I love florals for many reasons. First, I just think they are pretty and the perfect feminine pattern. Secondly, I believe they will always be on trend. Unlike animal print or chevron; floral is a pattern that has staying power. They are a good investment when you want to add some lasting fun to your wardrobe. Finally, floral patterns provide the perfect mix of colors for transitioning your wardrobe to and from seasons.

Let's take a look at how you can utilize florals to stay cool as you transition to fall!

Example 1:

The dress below is a sleeveless linen blend from The Dirt Road Boutique in Paducah, Kentucky (One of my favorite local boutiques!). This dress is the perfect weight for summer and its floral pattern is the perfect color palette for fall. Just a quick change of accessory can shift the season for this dress. In the summer months, you can use your accessories to highlight the brighter colors like yellow, white or orange like I did with these orange earrings from CWB. In the fall you can accessorize to highlight the warmer colors in the pattern such as burgundy or green. I’ve paired with one of my favorite earrings from my boutique for the fall look.

When the days get cooler, you can easily add a denim jacket and change up your footwear to carry this dress through the entire fall season. It is easy to see fluidity when considering this dress. Let's make it a little harder.

Example 2:

This next look contains a much brighter color palette but we can still work it into fall. Remember in our last example we suggested pulling out some of the brighter colors for summer? The floral pattern of this Time and Tru shirt from Walmart (Walmarts clothing game is killing it lately. Just saying) allows you to capitalize on the yellow, aqua or lavender of this top when you need to pull together a summer look. As you transition to fall, you can change up your accessories to highlight the navy or dark green found within the print.

Tassels are a fun and easy way to accentuate color in your clothing. Plus they are super trendy right now. Navy is a good color to invest in because it will go with so many things once you start looking in your closet. I didn’t think lavender would be the same but it was! I didn’t even realize this shirt had lavender in it until I held these earrings up to it. It’s amazing what little accessories can do!

You can shop the navy earrings here or the lavender using this link.

Example 3:

Mustard yellow is another color that is excellent for transitioning from summer to fall. Pairing this top from Anne Taylor Loft with these find red tassel earrings allowed me to pull out the bright red in the flower to create a more vibrant summer look. When paired with turquoise, this top takes on a fall-ish vibe. i don’t even think there is technically turquoise in this too but it just works. Because it’s turquoise. As turquoise is amazing. I actually wear it year-round because it can transition you into just about any season depending on the weight of the clothing and the coloring of the pieces it is paired with. This necklace is actually a Premier Designs necklace from when one of my best friends sold the jewelry. I stocked up on a lot of pieces and I’m not above admitting that you need jewelry of all kinds, from all kinds of places.

Example 4:

The final look we will discuss today is a chiffon kimono that was gifted to me. The colors are pale blue, peach and rose. Kimonos are already versatile pieces just by nature as they can be worn over a tank top for a breezy look or a long sleeve shirt in the cooler months. Again, you'll want that tank top to get you through the summer and the fall if you live in the south. A simple change in accessories will show you just how easy this transition can be. I would use my accessories to pull out the soft pink in the summer. Blush pink hues have been really popular in the last year or so. I never was a big pink person but I’m falling in LOVE with blush. Blush and bashful just might be my signature colors (Any Steel Magnolias fans out there?!?) You can capitalize on the peach hues in the fall. When paired with a burnt orange necklace, the peach flowers take on an entirely new look. Am I right or am I right?!

Seem too easy? Its because it is! That is the beauty of floral print! Floral prints almost always include a mixture of light and dark colors. Highlight the light (or bright) colors in the summer and focus on the darker, warmer colors in the fall. Florals aren't only for spring and summer. You can make them work year-round with a simple switch of accessory. are you convinced? Do you love them as much as me now? If so then let me know in the comments that my message has been received!
