How To Dress For Success

Updated: Mar 6, 2021

Did your school professors ever tell you to dress up on test day? Just me? I mean, I was in a fashion merchandising program after all.

But it was actually not about being "fashionable." It was about the reality that your appearance affects your confidence which affects your performance.

Imagine putting on a pair of hills and strutting your stuff. (It's hard to not feel like a boss. Unless of course you fall, ha!)

When your hair is done and your make up is on point you are less likely to second guess yourself. You are more likely to be bold in going after things you might not otherwise, like a promotion or new career.

I'm not saying that you have to look a certain way or be a certain way. This look will vary from person to person. But the truth is that there is an air of confidence in yourself when you take care of yourself and put in the effort.

Do you have a big goal you are going for this year? Is there a promotion at work you are wanting? Wake up each day and dress for success. Dress for the promotion you want. Wear something that makes you feel confident so that you are feeling empowered to take the next step toward your goal.

I am editing this post as our world is reopening after the coronavirus pandemic of 2020. Businesses were forced to close. Parents were homeschooling as schools had been shut down. So many were practicing #healthyathome! So many also experienced depression and insecurity. 10 weeks of sitting around the house in your yoga pants and not showering regularly can lead to this. Of course lost jobs and income doesn't help but I do wonder if some people might have felt differently about the situation had they at least gotten up in the mornings and thrown on some make up and jeans. Perhaps they would have felt more themselves and been able to accomplish a great deal at home or in their careers.

I can't explain the psychology behind this but I do know that it is there. After the pandemic I feel even more so that there is something to this theory. I don't mean to make light of the seriousness of the situation or make people feel guilty for not accomplishing anything during the quarantine. It was a hard situation for everyone and an unknown situation. However you came out of it is most likely exactly what you needed at the time. But going forward, perhaps this advice can help you face life's many uncertainties head on and with confidence!

Go forth and succeed looking like the beautiful confident woman you are!

What is one accessory or clothing piece you have that makes you feel confident? Tell me in the comments.
